Mobile Storage Solutions Tailored for Homeowners and Small Businesses in the US Virgin Islands.

In the VI there are two storage options:
  • Permanent Self Storage Facilities - where you bring your goods to their facility and the goods are stored there. It is essentially commercial real estate used as a storage facility.
  • Mobile Storage - where the storage units (typically a 10’ or 20’ long storage unit) are delivered to your house or job site and it stays there while you are using the storage unit. It is very convenient. Mobile Storage works out well if you have land where the unit can be placed.
Storage On Site introduced Mobile Storage to the VI in 2006 and only focuses on meeting the needs of VI clients. It does not do business elsewhere where it can be distracted.

Both Mobile Storage and Permanent Self Storage have their own advantages and disadvantages. At certain times one option may be more advantageous than the other option. The key point is clients should compare their options and do what is right for them.
From our perspective, there are the general rules of thumb where Mobile Storage is more advantageous:
1 - If you need storage for six (6) months or longer, Storage On Site Mobile Storage is likely the most convenient and economical option. We bring the storage unit to your place (house, business, job site, or government office). We always tell clients to compare our rates to the permanent self-storage facilities so clients can make their own decision. When potential clients call back, they usually say they wish they had called earlier.  Currently our rates are up to 35% lower than competitors.

2 - If you plan to use the storage for twelve months or longer, there are SIGNIFICANT savings with Storage On Site Mobile Storage vs the permanent self-storage facilities.

3 - If you already using a permanent self-storage facility, calculate how much you have spent so far and then compare what you would have spent using the Storage On Site Mobile Storage option. The additional cost of the permanent self-storage facility is money out of your pocket but also likely money going off island to the likely off- island owner of the permanent self-storage facility.
Our Recommendation: Go Local. Go Mobile. Go Storage On Site.
Post IRMA/Maria and COVID there are big changes in how households and small business clients both use and estimate their storage needs:
  • Freeing up existing space in their current buildings/homes  (using space for other purposes) and using mobile storage units at their site to store goods and materials.
  • IRMA/Maria changed how clients think about how much storage space they need. They now generally get a bigger unit (or more space) so in the event of a storm they can store valuable goods in the units. Additionally, the logistical challenges during COVID caused significant shortage of key materials and supplies. In general, we see clients get extra space to store key materials and supplies in event of a potential shortage so they are prepared.
